Chatra district was a place in Jharkhand belonging to the subdivision of Hazaribagh district, but later it was separated from Hazaribagh concerning notification no. 128 dated 29-05-1991 under the Personnel and Administrative Reforms of the Govt. of Bihar. And since then Chatra is known as a prominent district from Jharkhand and came to be known as one of the twenty-four districts of Jharkhand.
Covering an area of over 3706 km2 Chatra is distinguished as one of the famous districts of the area known for being extremely welcoming for tourists. It is a place famous for its dense forests and beautiful waterfalls the waters of which gurgle all day to soothe your ears. Though previously the district has been notorious for the extremist violence caused by the people with the MCC (Maoist Communist Centre) outfit, the later years saw in numerous efforts from Chatra police which led to keeping them at bay.
